SUMMARY:WHY SPACE MATTERS
DESCRIPTION:Why Space Matters: Rules\, Rockets\, and Maine’s Role in the New Space Age \nJoin us for an engaging panel featuring three experts who bring unique perspectives on the future of space exploration on Saturday\, October 4\, at 10 AM. Together\, they’ll explore how international space law is being written in real time\, how the space economy is opening new opportunities — including right here in Maine — and how the work of rocket scientists and engineers is making the impossible possible. From rules to rockets\, discover why space exploration matters today\, not just for astronauts and scientists\, but for all of us shaping life here on Earth and the generations who will look to the stars. \nMeet the Experts \nSPACE LAWYER Anne Cortez – CEO Washington Federal Strategies \nMs. Cortez holds degrees from Princeton and Boston Universities. Anne guides defense contractors\, startups\, universities\, researchers\, and entrepreneurs through federal and international regulatory challenges spanning satellite launches\, GPS spectrum use\, UAV licensing\, radar research\, advanced data links\, and NASA-related projects. \nSPACE MAN Terry Shahata\, Ph. D. – Executive Director of the Maine Space Corporation \nFormer Executive Director of the Maine Space Grant Consortium\, Dr. Shehata is a leader behind the Maine Space Complex concept to engage Maine in the new space economy\, and the legislatively created Maine Space Corporation to manage the development and growth of the complex. \nROCKET SCIENTIST Pete Warren\, Ph. D. – Physical Sciences Executive Vice President\, Material Systems \nDr. Warren holds degrees in Aerospace Engineering from both MIT and the University of Colorado. Pete leads the Materials Division\, which includes advanced technologies for rocket propulsion\, novel manufacturing methods\, advanced material coatings\, high temperature composites\, antennas\, and unfolding structures. \n  \nIf you would like to learn more be sure to attend our event on October 9th at Vinegar Hill with author Adam Higginbotham.
