SUMMARY:IN CONVERSATION WITH MAINE AUTHORS BILL ROORBACH AND SARAH BRAUNSTEIN- MARCH 1 @ 2:00 PM
DESCRIPTION:THE PATSY BRAY MAHONEY LECTURE SERIES PRESENTS – BILL ROORBACH AND SARAH BRAUNSTEIN \nWe are so excited to welcome two terrific Maine authors to Graves Library on Saturday\, March 1 @ 2:00 p.m.  Bill Roorbach and Sarah Braunstein will be here to talk about their latest works and what it takes to be a successful author in Maine.  These two novelists who are old friends first will reunite for an afternoon to make us laugh\, cry\, ask questions\, and get our books signed! \n \nBill Roorbach is the author of eleven books\, most recently the novels Beep\, Lucky Turtle\, and The Remedy for Love. \nHis Maine-based nonfiction includes Temple Stream and Into Woods. He’s won two Maine Literary Awards and—this just in—a 2025 Pushcart Prize.   Beep is the thoroughly grownup story of a Costa Rican Squirrel Monkey who is smuggled to NYC by an adventurous tween named Inga. Mayhem ensues\, but together they will save the world! \n  \n  \n  \nSarah Braunstein is the author of two novels\, Bad Animals and The Sweet Relief of Missing Children (both from W. W. Norton). \nHer short stories and essays have appeared in The New Yorker\, Playboy\, AGNI\, Ploughshares\, The Harvard Review\, The Cincinnati Review\, The Sun\, and in other publications. Her first novel was the winner of the Maine Book Award for Fiction and a finalist for the first novel prize from the Center for Fiction. She has been the recipient of a “5 Under 35” fiction award from the National Book Foundation and a Rona Jaffe Writers Award. She holds an MFA from the Iowa Writers’ Workshop and an MSW from Smith College School for Social Work. She is associate professor of English and creative writing at Colby College.  Bad Animals is a masterclass on reading as writing\, character-building\, and the craft in general. A meta-narrative depicting the small-town librarian\, Maeve Cosgrove\, who loses the job she loves more than anything due to the accusations of a complex teenage patron\, the novel is a sophisticated exploration of storytelling. \n  \nLight refreshments will be provided by the Graves Library Snack Team.  Copies of books will be available for sale and signing after the discussion. \nThe Library is located at 18 Maine Street\, Kennebunkport\, Maine 04046.  Parking is available on Maine Street\, Consolidated School (Route 9) and the Village Fire Station (North Street).  Doors will open at 1:30 p.m.

SUMMARY:AN AFTERNOON OF PAUL REVERE - APRIL 12 @ 1:00 PM
DESCRIPTION:THE MIDNIGHT RIDE OF PAUL REVERE \nApril 12 ~ 1:00 PM – 2:30 PM \nWe are thrilled to invite our good friend and neighbor\, Tom Putnam\, to the Louis T. Graves Memorial Public Library on Saturday\, April 12 @ 1:00 pm to celebrate and discuss the life and legend of Paul Revere.\nIt was one Maine’s most famous sons\, Henry Wadsworth Longfellow\, who singlehandedly turned Paul Revere into one of the most recognized heroes of the American Revolution. Kennedy Library and Museum in Boston and of the Concord Museum in Concord\, Massachusetts. He currently lives here in Kennebunkport. \n \n[Painting by N.C. SUMMARY:LOCAL AUTHOR ~ JENNIFER COMEAU - APRIL 26 @ 2:00 PM
DESCRIPTION:Local author\, poet\, and musician Jennifer Comeau will be here at Graves Library on Saturday\, April 26 at 2:00 pm to discuss her debut novel A Moon in All Things. \nIn the wild heart of 1820s Ireland\, young Morrigan Lane hears the sea’s call—and her ancestors’ ancient voices. Born with a connection to the mystical lands of her Celtic heritage\, Morrigan is no ordinary girl. She dreams of adventure\, breaking free from the restrictions of village life\, and\, above all\, sailing beyond the distant horizon.  But Morrigan finds herself pulled into a mysterious journey when a haunting vision of the Irish sea god\, Manannán mac Lir\, beckons her into his shadowy world. Against the backdrop of Ireland’s rugged cliffs and ancient stone circles\, she must navigate myth and reality\, confronting age-old traditions\, family secrets\, and the fierce expectations placed upon her as a young woman. A Moon in All Things is a spellbinding tale of Celtic mysticism\, forbidden dreams\, and the resilience of the human spirit. Fans of historical fantasy and coming-of-age adventures will be swept away by Morrigan’s quest for self-discovery in a world where land and sea\, myth and truth\, are deeply intertwined. \nPerfect for readers enchanted by Irish folklore\, women’s journeys\, and stories that echo the timeless call of nature\, A Moon in All Things reminds us that the true magic of life is waiting if we dare to reach for it. \nFans of Outlander’s Claire Fraser and The Frozen River’s Martha Ballard will enjoy Comeau’s Morrigan Lane\, who is fiercely devoted to discovering her healing gifts while those in power call them “dangerous.” \nABOUT THE AUTHOR \nHer stories\, songs\, speaking events\, and nature-based walks and workshops all seek to help you remember and restore your sacred partnership with the rest of the natural world.  She grew up one of eight children in suburban Tonawanda\, New York. Following the dictates of family and societal programming\, she jumped into the world of engineering\, earning a Masters of Engineering from University at Buffalo\, and a Bachelors of Industrial Engineering at General Motors Institute\, now Kettering University.  After decades working as an executive for manufacturers in the auto industry and then in information systems\, she returned to her early love for how words\, music\, nature\, and beautiful places can enliven the whole landscape of a life. She began to write songs\, and stories — speaking and performing them throughout the country\, and soon\, narrowed her focus to align with her reverence for Earth. \n \nCopies of the book will be available for sale and signing after the discussion.  Light refreshments will be served. \nThe Louis T. Graves Memorial Public Library is located at 18 Maine Street\, Kennebunkport. For further information\, please call 967-2778 or visit www.graveslibrary.org. Parking is available on Maine Street\, Consolidated School (Route 9)\, and the Village Fire Station (North Street). Doors will open at 1:30 p.m.

SUMMARY:ANNUAL POETRY BASH - SUNDAY\, APRIL 27 @ 2:00 PM
DESCRIPTION:Please join us at the Graves Library on Sunday\, April 27 @ 2:00 pm for our annual poetry reading. \nThe former US Poet Laureate Billy Collins once wrote: “All babies are born with a knowledge of poetry because the lub-dub of the mother’s heart is in iambic meter.” \nWe invite you to bring a poem to read that you have written\, share a favorite poem by another author\, or just hunker down and listen. Inaugurated in April 1996\, National Poetry Month brings together publishers\, booksellers\, literary organizations\, libraries\, schools\, and poets around the country to celebrate poetry and its vital place in American culture. Be part of the celebration! Light refreshments will be served. \n \n  \nThe Louis T. Graves Memorial Public Library is located at 18 Maine Street\, Kennebunkport. For further information\, please call 967-2778 or visit our website at www.graveslibrary.org.
