SPECIAL STORYTIME – MAINE AUTHOR – JOCELYN LACEY

Please join Miss Terri and Miss Stephanie for a special visit with Maine Author, Jocelyn Lacey.  Ms. Lacey will be here on Thursday, January 30 @ 3:15 pm. to read from her new book about kindness, Pierre the Peacock.  All ages are welcome.  Parents and caregivers are encouraged to participate.  No registration is required.  A delightful peacock craft will follow.

AN AFTERNOON @ THE MOVIES!

Join us on Tuesday, January 21 @ 1:00 pm for an  Afternoon At The Movies!  Saving Mr. Banks will be featured on the big screen.  Spurred on by a promise he made to his daughters, Walt Disney (Tom Hanks) embarks on what would become a 20-year quest to obtain the movie rights to “Mary Poppins.” The author, P.L. Travers (Emma Thompson), proves to be an uncompromising curmudgeon who has no intention of letting her beloved characters become mangled in the Hollywood machine. However, when the books stop selling and she finds herself in need of money, Travers reluctantly agrees to consider Disney’s proposition.  (IMBd, 2013)

MONTHLY MOVIE NIGHT @ GRAVES LIBRARY

Please join us on Thursday, February 20 @ 6:45 pm for a special showing of The Woman in Gold.  Sixty years after fleeing Vienna, Maria Altmann (Helen Mirren), an elderly Jewish woman, attempts to reclaim family possessions that were seized by the Nazis. Among them is a famous portrait of Maria’s beloved Aunt Adele: Gustave Klimt’s “Portrait of Adele Bloch-Bauer I.” With the help of young lawyer Randy Schoeberg (Ryan Reynolds), Maria embarks upon a lengthy legal battle to recover this painting and several others, but it will not be easy, for Austria considers them national treasures.  (IMBd, 2015).

EVENING BOOK GROUP

The Evening Book Group meets the last Thursday of every month at 6:00 p.m.

Please join us in the Business Center (First Floor–Side Door).  No registration required (967-2778).  For the month of January, we will be (briefly) discussing  The Imperfectionists by Tom Rachman.  Please call the Library if you need to reserve a copy.

Any attendee is requested to bring their book pick for the 2020 (February-November) reading list.  The only requirement–if you recommend—you have to have read it and think it worthy for discussion.

Join us on Tuesday, December 31 @ 1:00 pm for a  Prelude Afternoon At The Movies!  Join us to watch this jingle of a movie.  “Buttons : A Christmas Tale” will be shown in the Community Room.  Buttons: is the magical, musical story that shows believing can be the greatest gift of all. Follow the heartwarming journey of two orphan girls whose only wish is to find a home for Christmas. With a little help from their guardian angels (screen legends Dick Van Dyke and Angela Lansbury), they discover that miracles really can happen when you find the power to believe. From director Tim Janis, this inspiring holiday film for the whole family features an all-star cast including Jane Seymour, Roma Downey and Abigail Spencer, and is narrated by Kate Winslet and Robert Redford, with a special song by Sir Paul McCartney.  (Amazon.com)

MAKE A STAR – CRAFT PROGRAM

CALLING ALL CRAFTERS!

Isn’t it painful to toss all those beautiful cards you receive when the holidays are over?  Well, come to our Up-cycled Holiday Three-Dimensional Stars class, and you will never want to toss a card again.  You are welcomed to bring some of your own cards to this class–or use our supplies and leave this workshop knowing how to make more stars with your own special holiday, graduation, birthday, and even left over wedding invitations for a precious keepsake cards.  These stars can be hung in doorways or alcoves, and you can even cut a point off and use the star as your tree topper.  We will use glitter and shiny beads to result in a razzle-dazzle effect.
