MEET THE AUTHOR – DR. KATHARINE HAYHOE

The Climate Initiative and Louis T. Graves Memorial Public Library (and more) invite you to join us on Saturday, April 30 at 11:00 am at 18 Maine Street, Kennebunkport for a special free event in honor of Earth Month 2022, a virtual Meet the Author & Climate Chat with climate scientist and national bestselling author, Dr. Katharine Hayhoe.  Reserve your event ticket today. 

The event is hosted by The Climate Initiative (TCI), Kennebunkport’s own national climate change non-profit organization, whose mission is to empower youth voices for climate action from coast-to-coast. Dr. Hayhoe serves on the advisory council for TCI. 

Dr. Katharine Hayhoe is an atmospheric scientist whose research focuses on understanding what climate change means for people and the places where we live. She is the Chief Scientist for The Nature Conservancy and a Horn Distinguished Professor and Endowed Professor of Public Policy and Public Law in the Dept. of Political Science at Texas Tech University. Katharine has been named one of TIME’s 100 Most Influential People, the United Nations Champion of the Environment, and the World Evangelical Alliance’s Climate Ambassador.

Her book, “Saving Us: A Climate Scientist’s Case for Hope and Healing in a Divided World,” was released in September 2021 and is already a national bestseller.  Reserve your event ticket today. 

Dr. Hayhoe will be answering questions about Saving Us (moderated by Dr. Sam Montano, author of Disasterology and assistant professor of emergency management at Massachusetts Maritime Academy) and copies of the book will be available for sale with signed bookplates by the author!

The event will be held both digitally via Zoom and up to 50 spots will be available for in-person viewing at the Library, with a small reception following the chat from 12pm-1pm co-hosted by The Town of Kennebunkport and Kennebunkport Parks & Recreation. The Parks & Recreation Team will have an electric vehicle on site and available for test drives thanks to Maine Clean Communities!

About Moderator Dr. Sam Montano 

Montano is the author of Disasterology: Dispatches from The Frontlines of The Climate Crisis published in 2021 by Park Row. Part memoir, part expert analysis, Disasterology is a passionate and personal account of a country in crisis—one unprepared to deal with the disasters of today and those looming in our future. Currently, Samantha is an assistant professor of emergency management at Massachusetts Maritime Academy. She has taught courses on disaster preparedness, response, recovery, and mitigation, vulnerable populations in disaster, the political and legal foundations of emergency management, disaster communications, and disaster nonprofits.
