We hope you will join us for the launch of Maine Author Matt Cost’s newest book here at the Louis T. Graves Memorial Public Library, 18 Maine Street, Kennebunkport on Thursday, August 1 at 5:30 pm. Cost’s talk will feature his latest release in the Brooklyn 8 Ballo PI Series City Gone Askew. Cost is the highly acclaimed, award-winning author of the Mainely Mystery series. The first book in that series, Mainely Power, was selected as the Maine Humanities Council Read ME Fiction Book of 2020. I Am Cuba: Fidel Castro and the Cuban Revolution was his first traditionally published novel.

Matt Cost was a history major at Trinity College. He owned a mystery bookstore, a video store, and a gym, before serving a ten-year sentence as a junior high school teacher. In 2014 he was released and began writing. And that’s what he does. He writes histories and mysteries. Cost now lives in Brunswick, Maine, with his wife, Harper. There are four grown children: Brittany, Pearson, Miranda, and Ryan. A chocolate Lab and a basset hound round out the mix. He now spends his days at the computer, writing.

It’s Not About the Camera: An Evening of Beautiful Imagery and Compelling Reflections

Come enjoy an evening of captivating photography as Mark Jones shares thoughts and take-aways that can be used to improve your own images regardless of your camera. Mark is CEO and President of Saco & Biddeford Savings (SBSI). He joined SBSI in 1985 after completing his education at the University of Southern Maine and remains committed to building on the founding principles of SBSI meeting the financial needs of Southern Maine.

He shows this commitment through his volunteer work as a board member and treasurer of Shutterbugs4Charity, the vehicle through which support is provided for various worthy causes. Outside of SBSI, Mark has an unrivaled passion for photography, learning, practicing and teaching that pushes him to spend time with others who provide reminders and lessons for staying focused on those things most important in life: service, love and care for those in his circle of influence.

Local Author and friend to Graves Library Albert Waitt will be here on Thursday, May 23 at 6:00 pm to read from the second book in the LT Nichols Mystery Series. Newly published Flood Tide is an incredible work of fiction about what happens when a body washes up on the shore of a harbor island and what LT Nichols, Maine’s Chief of Police will do about it!

Mr. Waitt will bring copies of the book to sell and sign after his reading.

PLANTING FOR CLIMATE RESILIENCE IN NORTHEAST LANDSCAPES

WEDNESDAY, MAY 8 AT 5:30 PM

Together with our Friends of Rachel Carson National Wildlife Refuge, we are very excited to be hosting members of the Wild Seed Project. In addition to helping to sustain vital pollinators, birds, and other wildlife, native plantings offer countless other benefits that are indispensable in the age of climate change. When created and maintained with ecologically attuned landscaping practices, they can minimize flooding and storm water runoff, shade and cool cities, survive droughts, and facilitate carbon storage more effectively than the landscapes dominated by turf and mulch that blanket so many of our communities.

Andrea Berry from the Wild Seed Project will talk about the actions you can take to make your corner of the world more biodiverse and resilient to the effects of climate change. Andrea joined Wild Seed Project as the organization’s Executive Director in 2021. She also serves on the Board of Directors at Momentum Conservation and Resources for Organizing and Social Change.

Colin McKevitt, Rachel Carson National Wildlife Refuge Biological Technician, will address habitat management and native species planting. This includes shrubland habitats, salt marsh field surveying and restoration, and monitoring and managing invasive species. Colin is a key member of the Refuge team and is the manager of the Refuge native plant greenhouse. He instructs interns as well as community volunteers.

Copies of the publication “Planting for Climate Resilience” will be available for sale.

WINE TASTING WITH LANI DIETZ AND BETSY ROSS ~ MAY 16 @ 5:00 PM

Join us on Thursday, May 16 at 5:00 p.m. for a very special wine tasting and unveiling of the painting for our raffle fundraiser.

Local wine experts Lani Dietz and Betsy Ross will guide us through the program with ideas, pairings, and educational tidbits of the selected wines from around the globe.
