Pick up the summer flyer, sign up for our summer events, and explore the showcase of new books from toddler to high school. Be sure to check out the butterflies we are raising to release!

SUMMER READING KICK OFF

Saturday, June 17 at 9:30 am. Summer Reading Kick Off. The Children’s Department is pleased to announce this year’s theme for Summer Reading, All Together Now, focused on kindness, community, and being back together. Our special kickoff event will have a firetruck, donuts, lemonade, lawn games and a showcase of new books! Plus, be the first to pick up your summer reading packet that will include Graves Library book bags, summer reading buttons, stickers, craft and more! (Supplies are limited, so come early!) Be on the lookout for a special visit from Pete the Cat and others.

Starting June 21st, the Graves Library will offer its 2022 Summer Reading Program – OCEANS OF POSSIBILITIES!

Beginning June 21st, the Graves Library will offer its 2022 Summer Reading Program – Oceans of Possibilities. We will be offering a wide range of programs including visits from local authors, a pirates and mermaids party, origami and crafts to-go, a watercolor class with a local artist, story times on the lawn, and a stuffed animals sleepover!

This series of brief (<5 minute) videos present nuggets of scientific information about the Gulf of Maine in an easily digestible format.

Community/Citizen Science Investigations
GMRI’s community science program, the Ecosystem Investigation Network, features two investigations that you can participate in to contribute to scientific work regarding the Gulf of Maine. There is one focused on tracking invasive crabs in the intertidal zone, and another focused on documenting coastal flooding resulting from sea level rise.

PROGRAMS TO GO @ THE LIBRARY

Butterflies – Color your own butterfly backpack that comes with a scavenger sheet of things to find outside.  Can you find all of these items when you go out?  Extra points if you see a butterfly while you are exploring.  For ages 4 and up. 

Blooming Art – Color your own cardboard vase.  It has ready-made holes for flowers from your yard or use flowers in the kit.  Add stickers and gems (also provided).  For ages 4 and up.

Pet Tales and Talks – Decorate the picture frame and add a photo of your pet.  Write a poem or story that includes the wooden object in your kit.  Share the photo and writing with us on Facebook for a surprise!  For the entire family.
