AUTHOR VISIT WITH MAUREEN LEE AND JENNIFER COOLEY

We are very excited to host local authors Maureen Lee and Jennifer Cooley, to read from their latest children’s book in their A Puppy in Maine series, on Thursday, August 8 @ 1:00 in the Community Room.  Copies of the book will be available for sale and signing.   Please call 967-2778 to register for this program.

Maureen Lee is a primary care physician who first fell in love with Maine while attending medical school in Biddeford, Maine, at the University of New England. She enjoys reading and traveling in her home state, as well as making time for bird-watching, hiking, photography, and painting.

Jennifer Cooley is a teacher in Kennebunk, Maine. Raised in Maine, she received her Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in education from Cedarville University in Ohio.  Jenny loves to read, paint, travel, and go on adventures with Summer.

Summer is a fun-loving Golden Retriever pup who loves living in Maine and spending most of her time at outside.  Some of her favorite hobbies include jumping in the waves at the ocean, spying on the neighbors, and stealing socks.

Local author Jocelyn Lacey will read to us from her book Coral’s First Sleepover books will be available for signing and sale. We’ll have a special mermaid craft. STORYTIME WITH LOCAL AUTHOR JOCELYN LACEY

Joined by a Kennebunkport Police Officer, local author Jocelyn Lacey will be sharing her new children’s book What Do Police Officers Do? The program will take place outside on the lawn (weather permitting). Join us as we learn about police officers and the many jobs they do in the community where they live!

OCEAN TALES STORYTIME

Featuring the books Mr. Gull Meets Lady Lobster and The Shenanigans of Slim Pickins by the late beloved local author Tony Viehmann, read aloud by his granddaughters Kiera and Madison. Make a whale crown, too! All ages are welcome.

We will be offering a wide range of programs including visits from local authors, a pirates and mermaids party, origami and crafts to-go, a watercolor class with a local artist, story times on the lawn, and a stuffed animals sleepover!

GMRI’s community science program, the Ecosystem Investigation Network, features two investigations that you can participate in to contribute to scientific work regarding the Gulf of Maine. There is one focused on tracking invasive crabs in the intertidal zone, and another focused on documenting coastal flooding resulting from sea level rise.
